Study of nova shells

چکیده
We present Hα direct imaging and shell spectroscopic observations of two classical novae: FH Ser 1970 and QU Vul 1984. The distances, reddenings, luminosities at maximum, and the mass of the shell ejected by FH Ser are derived and discussed.

Deep optical imaging of nova remnants II . A southern - sky sample
We present an optical imaging study of 20 southern-sky nova remnants which has resulted in the discovery of four previously unknown nova shells – V842 Cen, RR Cha, DY Pup and HS Pup. The study has also revealed previously unobserved features in three other known shells – those of BT Mon, CP Pup and RR Pic. The images of BT Mon, V842 Cen, RR Cha, DY Pup and HS Pup have been processed using sever...
متن کاملThe Imprint of Nova Nucleosynthesis in Presolar Grains
Infrared and ultraviolet observations of nova light curves have confirmed grain formation in their expanding shells that are ejected into the interstellar medium by a thermonuclear runaway. In this paper, we present isotopic ratios
متن کاملProspects in Classical Nova Modeling and Nucleosynthesis
Classical novae are fascinating stellar events, at the crossroads of astrophysics, nuclear physics and cosmochemistry. In this review, we outline the history of nova modeling with special emphasis on recent advances and perspectives in multidimensional simulations. Among the topics that are covered, we analyze the interplay between nova outbursts and the Galactic chemical abundances, the synthe...
متن کاملInfrared spectroscopy of Nova Cassiopeiae 1993 ( V 705 Cas ) – IV . A closer look at the dust
Nova Cassiopeiae 1993 (V705 Cas) was an archetypical dust-forming nova. It displayed a deep minimum in the visual light curve, and spectroscopic evidence for carbon, hydrocarbon and silicate dust. We report the results of fitting the infrared spectral energy distribution with the dusty code, which we use to determine the properties and geometry of the emitting dust. The emission is well describ...
متن کاملNova–induced Mass Transfer Variations
We investigate variations of the mass transfer rate in cataclysmic variables (CVs) that are induced by nova outbursts. The ejection of nova shells leads to a spread of transfer rates in systems with similar orbital period. The effect is maximal if the specific angular momentum in the shell is the same as the specific orbital angular momentum of the white dwarf. We show analytically that in this...
